Feb. 7. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services said today that COVID-related hospitalizations have fallen to 4,032 in today’s coronavirus update, down 17 percent in the space of a week.
Deaths
The NCDHHS reported 152 new COVID-related deaths statewide between Friday and today, including one new COVID death in Cornelius.
New cases
There were 4,927 new cases statewide in today’s report. It’s the smallest one-day increase since late December.
Positivity rate
The statewide COVID positivity rate fell to 19.3 percent—the first time it has been under 20 percent since Jan. 3.
—In Mecklenburg, the 14-day trailing average was 25.1 percent.

There were 1,923 new COVID cases countywide since Friday’s report.
North Mecklenburg (change from Friday)
• Cornelius: 55 new cases, 6,431 cumulative total, 34 deaths cumulative total.
• Davidson: 40 new cases, 3,902 cumulative total, 20 deaths cumulative total.
• Huntersville: 107 new cases, 14,621 cumulative total, 85 deaths cumulative total.
