Dec. 29. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services reported 9,377 new cases of the coronavirus statewide and a positivity rate of 17.3 percent statewide. COVID-related hospitalizations climbed past the 2,000 mark statewide for the first time since mid-October. Huntersville surpassed 10,000 cases for the first time, with 74 cumulative deaths—a .74 percent fatality rate.
Hospitalizations
The NCDHHS reported 2,122 hospitalizations statewide due to the coronavirus, up from 1,922 yesterday.
Deaths
There were 31 new COVID deaths statewide; none were reported in Mecklenburg.
Mecklenburg
There were 439 new cases reported county-wide from Tuesday’s report to today. Mecklenburg’s 14-day average positive test rate is 12.3 percent.
North Mecklenburg (change from Tuesday)
• Cornelius: 31 new cases, 4,515 cumulative total, 32 deaths cumulative total.
• Davidson: 12 new cases, 2,614 cumulative total, 19 deaths cumulative total.
• Huntersville: 81 new cases, 10,001 cumulative total, 74 deaths cumulative total.

On Dec. 29 2020 there were 3,563 new cases and 3,377 people hospitalized in North Carolina due to the coronavirus.
