COVID-19 update: More than 4,000 new cases

Aug. 5. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services is reporting 4,331 new COVID-19 cases statewide, with the median number of new cases over the past seven business days running 213 percent ahead of the past 30 days. (See chart, data from Johns Hopkins)

“New cases of COVID-19 are on the rise and most of these cases are among young adults,” said Kody Kinsley, chief deputy secretary for health at NCDHHS.

COVID-related hospitalizations, under 1,000 10 days ago, were at 1,651 statewide in today’s NCDHHS report.

Positive testing is at 10.4 percent.

There were 24 new deaths attributable to the coronavirus in today’s report.

Mecklenburg County

In Mecklenburg County, the NCDHHS reported 502 new coronavirus cases, but no new COVID-related deaths.

North Mecklenburg (change from Wednesday to today)

Cornelius: 19 new cases, 3,087 cumulative; 26 deaths cumulative.

Davidson: 11 new cases, 1,813 cumulative; 15 deaths cumulative

Huntersville: 22 new cases 6,533 cumulative; 54 deaths cumulative
