May 3. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 1,126 new COVID-19 cases, for a total of 974,319 statewide since the outbreak began in 2020.
A total of 331 of the 2,231 COVID-19 cases reported for April 30 were based on tests performed at Catawba Valley Medical Center between Jan. 6 and April 26, so the number of cases reported Friday April 30 (2,231) was inflated due to a backlog in reporting.
As of today’s report, 50 percent of people in North Carolina 18 and older have had at least one shot.
Hospitalizations
Statewide, hospitalizations fell by 94 today’s report, to 1,007.
Deaths
There were 40 new deaths attributable to COVID-19 statewide since Friday, for a total of 12,691.
Testing
The statewide positive test rate was at 6 percent in today’s report. Mecklenburg County was at 6.5 percent.
North Mecklenburg
Cornelius: 3 new cases since Friday, 2,838 cumulative; 25 deaths total.
Davidson: 5 new cases since Friday, 1,658 cumulative; 15 deaths total.
Huntersville: 44 new cases, 5,893 cumulative; 50 deaths total.
