May 27. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 849 new cases of the coronavirus statewide, but hospitalizations are once again under 700 for the fourth day in a row. There were no new cases reported in Huntersville and Davidson, nor any new COVID-19 deaths in Mecklenburg County.
—The statewide positive test rate hit a new low this year: 2.8 percent.
—The total number of North Carolinians who have had COVID-19 popped over the 1 million mark for the first time: 1,000,416.
—Statewide, there were 681 people hospitalized, and 24 new deaths attributable to the coronavirus.
