May 26. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 866 new cases of the coronavirus statewide, for a total of just under 1 million cases since the pandemic began last year. Deaths attributable to COVID-19 rose by 27 since yesterday, for a total of 13,031 in North Carolina.
Statewide, there were 695 people hospitalized, a slight decrease from yesterday.
Testing
The statewide positive test rate was at 3.8 percent percent in today’s report; Mecklenburg County was at 3.5 percent. Trending down from 5 percent is the goal, according to NDHHS.

Cornelius: 1 new case, 2,860 cumulative; 25 deaths total.
Davidson: 1 new case, 1,686 cumulative; 15 deaths total.
