Delta Variant spike becoming apparent on right side of chart

July 16. By Dave Yochum. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 1,023 new COVID-19 cases statewide, as the Delta Variant makes its presence known. Hospitalizations due to COVID climbed to 536, a new high over the past month.

There were four new deaths attributable to the coronavirus in today’s NCDHHS report. Positive testing, at 4.2 percent, has been under the critical 5 percent level for two days. The NCDHHS says 56 percent of NC adults are fully vaccinated; the nationwide goal is 70 percent.

Mecklenburg County

In Mecklenburg County, there were 120 new coronavirus cases, and no new COVID-related deaths.

North Mecklenburg (change from Thursday to today)

Cornelius: 1 new case, 2,932 cumulative; 26 deaths total.

Davidson: 1 new case, 1,725 cumulative; 15 deaths total.

Huntersville: 8 new cases 6,160 cumulative; 54 deaths total.
