The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services is reporting a 14 percent statewide positivity rate for COVID-19, not far from the post-holiday peaks late last year and early this year. On Dec. 30 last year, the statewide positivity rate was 14.8 percent; on Jan. 6 it peaked at 17.8 percent.
There were 2,985 new coronavirus cases statewide in today’s report, down from 3,863 new cases yesterday.
Hospitalizations
Statewide, hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are at 2,179, up from 1,946 yesterday, and 418 statewide one month ago. Hospitalizations were at 2,171 on Dec. 5, just after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Deaths
There were nine new deaths statewide due to COVID-19.
Vaccinations
Meanwhile, 58 percent of NC adults are fully vaccinated.
Mecklenburg County
In Mecklenburg County, the NCDHHS reported 433 new coronavirus cases between Monday and today, but no new COVID-related deaths. The Mecklenburg County positive test rate is 11.8 percent.
North Mecklenburg (change from Monday to today)
Cornelius: 11 new cases, 3,143 cumulative; 26 deaths cumulative.
Davidson: 13 new cases, 1,858 cumulative; 15 deaths cumulative
Huntersville: 17 new cases 6,700 cumulative; 54 deaths cumulative
