April 12. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 1,469 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, as well as 904 people hospitalized due to the coronavirus. Exactly one month ago, new daily cases were at 1,998 and hospitalizations were at 1,037.
Testing
The statewide positive test rate is at 6.9 percent in today’s report, up from 3.7 percent on March 12.
Deaths
A total of 12,290 North Carolinians have died due to COVID-19, an increase of 627 since March 12.
Vaccinations
Forty-one percent of North Carolinians have been partially vaccinated; 30 percent fully vaccinated.

Cornelius: 11 new cases, 2,758 cumulative; 24 deaths total.
Davidson: 11 new cases, 1,606 cumulative; 15 deaths total.
Huntersville: 39 new cases, 5,631 cumulative; 48 deaths total.
Mirroring a broader trend nationwide, NCDHHS data shows North Carolinians in their 20s, 30s and 40s have roughly doubled their share of total hospitalizations since January’s surge.
