April 29. Mecklenburg County’s stay at home order lifts tomorrow, but North Carolina residents remain under the statewide order at least through May 8.

The Mecklenburg order was stricter than the state’s, so some restrictions will loosen, according to Huntersville Mayor John Aneralla.

For example, he said boat ramps will open, as will parking in county-owned parks.

Meanwhile, Mecklenburg County reports 1,528 diagnosed cases, up from 1,491 yesterday, up just 2.48 percent. There have been 45 related deaths in Mecklenburg, up two overnight. COVID-19 cases statewide as of this morning rose to 9,948, up 3.97 percent. Deaths related to the pandemic rose to 354, up by 12 individuals from the day before.

Officials say social distancing is working.

Restrictions will loosen on funeral homes, car dealerships, book stores and real estate sales, Aneralla said, explaining that “we worked hard to align the county” with the North Carolina stay-at-home order.

“It is a victory for small business, a good first step toward some easing for retailers,” the Huntersville mayor said.

The governor’s stay at home order still requires residents to stay at home through May 8, unless you are considered an essential employee, you must visit friends and family in urgent need or you are traveling for essential needs like food or medicine.

Meanwhile, the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway can happen—but without fans in attendance—if COVID-19 trends continue in a favorable direction.

Essential businesses must observe the following requirements:

—Maintain at least 6 feet distance from other individuals

—Wash hands using soap and water for at least 20 seconds or the use of hand sanitizer

—Regularly clean high-touch surfaces

—Facilitating online or remote access by customers
