The Cornelius Police Department is highlighting the dangers of identity theft with its upcoming Document Shredding event.
The event, scheduled for 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Oct. 8, will be held in the parking lot of Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave. The document shredding is free, and people are encouraged to bring items such as obsolete tax documents, financial statements, canceled checks, insurance documents, business records or any records that they want safely destroyed. There will be a maximum of four bags or boxes allowed per person or business.
The department asks that people not bring recyclable materials or trash such as junk mail or old magazines or newspapers.
