July 6. Lake Norman is hosting the NC Little League 8-10 Year Old Softball State Championship at North Mecklenburg Park beginning July 7. Lake Norman Little League is sending four All-Star teams to the championships. In addition to Lake Norman’s 8-10 year-old All-Star softball team advancing directly to the state tournament, three baseball All-Star teams brought home North Carolina District 3 championship banners this past week. About 10 of the  young players are from Cornelius.

On June 25, the 6-7 year-old All Star team managed by John Whittington, defeated Weddington National 13-3 to advance to the state tournament in Sylva. On June 26, the 7-8 year-old All-Star

team managed by Andrew Kline defeated Steele Creek 8-1 to advance to the state tournament in Wilson. Then on June 28, the Intermediate (50/70) All-Star team managed by Mike Carpino defeated Weddington American 11-9 to advance to the state tournament in Wilmington.
