Chase began in front of Cornelius Police headquarters

April 24. Cornelius Police were involved in a vehicle pursuit that began in front of CPD headquarters, went into Davidson, came back into Cornelius and traveled down I-77 into South Carolina before ending at a business on Remount Road in Charlotte.

Police said the incident began at about 4:42 pm on Wednesday.

The suspects, Marquis Lavontez Meaders (B/M DOB 10/15/1989) and Erica Darlene Lewis (B/F DOB 11/14/1987), were taken to the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Meaders was charged with Felony Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Felony Flee to Elude, Reckless Driving to Endanger, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Lewis was arrested based on a Governor’s Warrant out of Virginia for Obtaining Money Under False Pretense.

This is what happened, according to police:

“CPD received a suspicious vehicle call where a victim had been followed to the Cornelius Police Department from the Rosedale Shopping Center in Huntersville. Both the victim and suspect vehicles were parked in front of the police department. Officers went to speak with both drivers of the vehicles and while speaking with them, the suspect vehicle drove off nearly striking a Cornelius Officer. The driver of the suspect vehicle failed to yield to another Cornelius Officer and a pursuit ensued.”

The Cornelius Police Department would like to thank the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the Davidson Police Department for their assistance.
