Candlelight vigil for fallen officer tonight

Concord Police and the City of Concord are inviting the public to join them in remembering Officer Jason Shuping, 25, who was killed in the line of duty Wednesday night.

They will be hosting a candlelight vigil and chalk the walk event at 6 pm tonight in front of Concord Police Headquarters.

Chalk will be available—especially for children—to leave notes of condolences and respect for the fallen officer.

Tribute continues to grow

There is a massive tribute outside Concord Police headquarters as the community continues to grieve.

Shuping joined the force 18 months ago. Shuping graduated from East Rowan High School in 2014 and also attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he was a former track team member.

He leaves behind a wife, whom he married in 2018.

A procession yesterday brought his body from the Charlotte Medical Examiner’s Office to Concord to Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell.
