Calling all playwrights to submit short, original work

July 11. Submissions are open for the 7th Annual Boos and Brews 10-Minute Play Festival in October.

The festival will be held at the Davidson Community Players  Actor’s Lab Black box theater in Cornelius on Oct. 26, 27 and 28.

Plays will be accepted from NC, SC, Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia. Playwrights of all levels of experience are encouraged to submit. The deadline is Sept. 5.

Here are the details:

1. Your play is to be 10 minutes in length

2. It should be formatted with 12pt. font with 1” margins, no more than 10 pages

3. The theme is to be Halloween/Ghost/Spirit-oriented (comedy or drama)

4. The play should require no more than five actors

5. The set needs should be minimalistic (i.e. no refrigerators or heavy objects)

6. Other production values should likewise be minimal (costumes, lighting, props, etc.)

Your submission should be blind. Include a cover page that contains the title, your name, email address, and phone number. All subsequent pages must have the title only along with the page number. Prior to giving your submission to the play selection committee, the cover page will be removed so that members will not know who wrote what.

Playwrights whose work is chosen for performance will be notified in September. Playwrights may submit up to two plays for consideration.

Email your submission in a PDF document to Todd Olson, DCP artistic director at todd@davidsoncommunityplayers.org.

A selection committee members will choose the top six to be performed live at the festival.
