Cain Center grand opening Jan. 3; Hamilton star performs Jan. 7

Nov. 14. Renée Elise Goldsberry, who originated the role of Angelica Schuyler in the Broadway musical Hamilton, will headline opening week events at the Cain Center for the Arts in early January.

Goldsberry, who won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, also appeared in “The Color Purple,” “The Lion King” and “Rent” on Broadway.

“An Evening With Renee Elise Goldsberry is Jan. 7.

The ribbon cutting for the $25 million project is 10 am Jan. 3 followed by a community open house from 4 pm to 8 pm.

There will also be free art workshops for youth and adults (registration opens Dec 5).

Local performers

Opening day also includes performances by LKN Orchestra, Learn Music, Steve Langley’s Soap Bubble Circus and Rusty Knox, starting at 6 pm.

The week’s events are meant to celebrate the almost 10 years of work by community members, elected officials, town staff, Cain Center board and staff as well as volunteers. Cornelius philanthropists Ericka and Bill Cain donated $5 million toward the construction of the center downtown.

There is also a grand opening exhibit in the Keele Family Gallery featuring:

“Mysterious and Unique Glass Pieces by Jake Pfeifer of Hot Glass Alley”

Jake will be displaying one of a kind, specifically created glass works for our Opening at the Cain Center for the Arts.

$250 per ticket
