March 10. By Dave Vieser. The COVID-delayed takeover of the Cornelius Arts Center by the Cain Center for the Arts will take place in September, about nine months later than planned.
The Cain Center, which is at $18.1 million toward a $25 million goal, will take over all current visual arts programs and activities including pottery as well as the day-to-day operations of the Cornelius Arts Center located at Oak Street Mill in downtown Cornelius.
According to Town PARC Director Troy Fitzsimmons, no jobs will be eliminated.
The previous Cornelius Arts Center director, Mindi Ellison, is being replaced by Megan King, who will oversee current operations of the Cornelius Arts Center and the transition to the Cain Center for the Arts.
She will also become the program director for the Cain Center for the Arts.
Groundbreaking is currently scheduled for this spring, with the goal of opening in time for the 2022 holiday season.
Cain Center Executive Director Justin Dionne said, “We’re excited to have the opportunity to continue growing this important visual arts program and to continue building our relationship with the artists, teachers, and students who’ve helped it thrive through the years.”
