Sept. 27. By Dave Vieser. First, we learned that improvements at the Bailey Road/Hwy. 115 intersection would not be done in time for the opening of school due to an NCDOT snafu. Now, further unrelated delays may push the project’s completion into November.
The problem was revealed at a Cornelius Town Board meeting by Assistant Town Manager Tyler Beardsley, as town staff was presenting a transportation project status report to the town commissioners.
Delay ahead
“According to our signal contractor, the mast arms for the traffic signal have been delayed and are now not expected to arrive until mid-October,” Beardsley said. “On that new schedule, the project should be completed between late October and early November.”
Other options?
Beardsley said the town was also exploring other options should there be any further delay in the delivery of the mast arms.
The improvements include the addition of dedicated northbound and southbound turn lanes on Hwy.115, as well as dedicated turn lanes for westbound traffic on Bailey Road.
Construction began earlier this year.
