April 2. Cornelius’ annual municipal budget retreat—a busy, two-day work session—gets under way tomorrow at the Graylyn International Conference Center in Winston Salem. The mayor, members of the Board of Commissioners and key staff members attend and, like a large business, dive into the details of budgeting and goal-setting.
The workshop begins at 8:30 am and will be broadcast live on the town website: www.cornelius.org.
The General Fund Budget this year is just over $40 million, up 9 percent from the FY 2024 estimated year-end expenditures. A tax increase is not considered likely in an election year.
Last year, taxes stayed flat with a rate of 17.31 cents per $100 of valuation.

“I believe we can continue to provide the high level of service that citizens are accustomed to without a tax increase,” said Todd Sansbury, a member of the Town Board

Next year’s spending plan will be a work in progress during April and May, but it must be approved by June 30 because the new fiscal year begins July 1.
The retreat sessions are open to the public. Graylyn is located at 1900 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem 27106
Well, were I a Cornelius taxpayer, I’d want a publicly funded retreat for myself. Can’t they NOT spend money to discuss how they are going to spend money? This is why we have DOGE!
