June 14. It seems like only yesterday that the Pizza Hut on West Catawba Avenue was churning out pies, but first thing Friday morning, a full-service Starbucks complete with casual seating inside and a drive-up window outside will be open for business.
The 3,237 square foot Starbucks is one of the largest drive-up Starbucks in the country, replacing the now-closed store on One Norman Boulevard at West Catawba.
The new location capitalizes on morning commutes into points south from the west side of town.
Yummy menu items include breakfast biscuits served all day as well as lunch items like a chicken wrap and a tomato and mozzarella panini, not to mention baked goods and Frappuccino blended beverages. If calories are no object, a Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino weighs in at 490.
Oh, and there’s actual coffee too.
The iconic $22 billion (revenue) coffee retailer has found drive-throughs produce more revenue than stores without them. Starbucks has been transitioning to full stand-alone facilities, where they can offer a wider range of food and services, as well as additional seating and drive-throughs.
And in other news, the CEO of the Seattle-based coffee company announced he is planning to take the summer off instead of running for President of the United States.
His name is Howard Schultz.
