Aug. 7. By Dave Vieser. The Cornelius Town Board approved rezoning requests for the Alexander Farm and Baileys Glen properties at their Monday meeting. The board also received a report that says major road improvements may be delayed significantly due to funding issues at the NCDOT.
Rezoning
—Alexander Farm: The commissioners voted unanimously to approve the rezoning for the $110 million mixed-use development planned for the 55-acre Alexander Farm in Cornelius. The mixed-use development with retail, gathering space, parkland, residential and senior housing will be transformational for the West Catawba/Westmoreland area. WIN Development of Belleaire Beach, Florida, has worked through a variety of changes to the project since it was first proposed in 2017 including a number of traffic and transportation improvements.
—Forest at Baileys Glen: Unanimous approval was also granted for the rezoning of 13.5 acres located on Bernhardt Road. The proposed development will include eleven single family homes and an amenity center.
NCDOT delays
A clearer picture of the delay may be better known later this week when the matter is presented before the State Transportation Board in Raleigh.
