Nov. 7. By Dave Vieser. A $2.5 billion bond referendum which would fund 30 high-priority CMS projects is on the ballot in Cornelius and throughout Mecklenburg County. Included in the bonds would be funds for a new Cornelius Elementary School.
The projects are designed to improve educational environments, offer more academic options, alleviate overcrowding, and renovate and replace aging CMS facilities.
Unlike previous CMS bond issues, this year’s version has generated little opposition in Northern Mecklenburg County. In fact, Cornelius, as well as several other towns, have adopted resolutions in support of the measure, along with the Lake Norman Chamber.
