Dec. 5. We love a parade, and all things Christmas, so this past weekend was really special. Christmas in Davidson and the North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade, organized by the Davidson Fire Department and Cornelius-Lemley Volunteer Fire Department, were two highlights of a busy pre-holiday weekend.
Thousands of people lined Main Street for the 34th running of the N. Meck Christmas Parade. There were school bands, horses, tractors, dance teams and, of course, the big man himself, Santa Claus.
He brought up the rear of the parade, sitting high atop a fine red sleigh. Cornelius resident Gene Ervin personally arranges Santa’s visit every year.
Meanwhile, more traditions like the American Legion Post 86 Barbecue fundraiser was Saturday, and the Cornelius volunteer fire department was selling Christmas trees in rain, shine and cold on the corner of Main Street and Catawba Avenue.
Proceeds fund the 9-11 Monument in front of Fire Station No. 1.
