Aug. 18. Danae Caulfield will be the Republican nominee for NC House District 92, replacing Rep. Charles Jeter, who resigned in July. She will oppose Chaz Beasley, a Democrat. District 92 includes parts of Huntersville, Charlotte, Pineville and Steele Creek, as well as Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

Caulfield served on the Huntersville Town Board and ran unsuccessfully for mayor. She is an Allen Tate real estate agent, as well as a graduate of Johnson and Wales University. Beasley, who grew up in a low-income, single parent home, graduated with honors from Harvard. He is an attorney in the finance industry and lives in Steele Creek .

When Jeter resigned July 25, it looked like Tom Davis, who opposed NC Rep. Charles Jeter in the GOP primary, would be appointed to fill Jeter’s seat in the General Assembly. But Davis did not ask to have his name put on the ballot. He wanted only to be appointed to fill out the term.

The Republican executive committee voted to have Justin Moore fill the seat until January.

“Danae did a great job serving the citizens of Huntersville on the town board. I look forward to her serving the citizens of District 92 in Raleigh beginning this January,” Huntersville Mayor John Aneralla said.

Davis had already been endorsed by a wide variety of Republican leaders, including: Mecklenburg County Commissioner Jim Puckett; Huntersville Mayor John Aneralla; Huntersville Mayor Pro Tem Danny Phillips; Cornelius Mayor Pro Tem Woody Washam; and Cornelius Commissioner Dave Gilroy.
