June 7. The Lake Norman Teen Council is made up of teens in grades 6-12 who are in charge of creating programs and volunteer opportunities for their peers. Council members plan trips, dances, fundraisers, workshops, volunteering and many other exciting activities.
Meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the Bailey Road Recreation Center. The first meeting for the upcoming school year is scheduled for Sept. 13.
More than 60 local teens were members of the 2015-16 council. A highlight of the past year was “Decked Out 2ksixteen.” Held in a closed-off parking deck, the event featured outdoor games, a movie and a photo booth.
The Lake Norman Teen Council is advised by the parks and recreation departments of Cornelius, Huntersville and Davidson. Learn more at www.cornelius.org/parc.
