In Lake Norman, there’s a concerted effort to upset Gov. Pat McCrory. Political pundits and advisors say there’s virtually no chance Mooresville’s Robert Brawley can beat McCrory in the primary, but he may do well in Lake Norman where I-77 tolls are a major issue.
“Brawley will lose statewide by a wide margin, but how much he loses by in Lake Norman will send a message to the governor,” one political advisor said.
Businessman John Hettwer, a former chairman of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce, was helping organize a pro-Brawley, anti-toll campaign.
Contested seats range from the President of the United States to governor and at-large commissioners on the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners, as well as the Connect NC bond package, which funds, among other things, improvements to state colleges and universities.
Early voting ended Saturday.
