Tex-Mex style restaurant will open in former Waterman space next year

Waterman location in Cornelius

Charlotte restaurateur Rob Duckworth plans to open a new eatery in the old Waterman space on Bailey Road at Hwy. 21. Chili Willi’s, a Tex-Mex cantina concept, is expected to open next year across from the new Atrium Lake Norman hospital.

Duckworth is the owner of such local mainstays at Link & Pin and Duckworth’s Grill & Taphouse in Mooresville and Huntersville.

The Waterman seafood restaurant closed two months ago after three years in Cornelius. The existing South Charlotte location remains open and a new location has opened at Terminal C at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, according to High Tide Hospitality.

  1. Let’s hope it is not another overpriced mediocre food place that is just trying to make a buck up here in the LKN area. The last 2 were so overpriced for what they served, no wonder they both went under. Fingers crossed this will be something different.

    • As if we need another “tex-mex” place in this area!! A wing joint would’ve been amazing!! Ahhh well. I do truly hope it’s good and reasonably priced, and it stays!
