The Egg Scramble is free for Cornelius residents, $3 for non-residents. Registration is open now; spaces are limited.

Designed for children ages 3-10 and their families, participants can enjoy an afternoon filled with fun, including arts and crafts, a DJ, a glitter tattoo artist, inflatables and concessions. There will be a visit from Peter Cottontail.

Cornelius Cardboard Boat Regatta

Is duct tape really the answer to everything? Interested in floating that idea? Cornelius Parks and Recreation, Cornelius Police Department and the Joshua Murray Boating Safety Center are excited to host the first Cornelius Cardboard Boat Regatta.

Registered teams will design and construct their own boats, built primarily of cardboard and duct tape, and race them on Lake Norman. Awards will be given to the winners of the boat race and also in the categories of Best Decorated, People’s Choice and the Titanic Award (best sinking).

Viewing the race is free.  Just show up at Ramsey Creek Park, 18441 Nantz Rd., from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday, May 3.

Racing teams must register; $25 for residents and $35 for others.

Need large cardboard? There are two chances for teams to pick up cardboard at Cornelius Town Hall on 4-6 pm Thursday, March 27 and noon – 1 pm Saturday, April 5. An SUV, truck or trailer is recommended for cardboard pick up.

Family Campout

Registration beings April 10 for the Saturday, May 10 campout.

You bring the tent, Cornelius Parks & Recreation will bring the fun. Each spring, Cornelius Parks & Recreation hosts a nature-focused family campout that features an evening of games, campfire stories, s’mores, stargazing (weather permitting) and a night hike.

After camping out, a light breakfast will be provided in the morning.

This year’s campout starts 6:30 pm Saturday, May 10, and ends 8 am Sunday, May 11.
