Feb. 5. Registration for Book Club Madness, a unique competition designed to engage and celebrate book clubs throughout Mecklenburg County, opens today and will close on Feb. 28. Inspired by the excitement of March Madness, the event encourages book club members to participate in a series of weekly challenges to earn points for their teams.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation is sponsoring the competition.
Activities include visiting library branches, sharing favorite book club reads, checking out books or e-books, and engaging with the Library’s social media platforms. Participants can score two-pointers, three-pointers, and free throws, with opportunities to win fun weekly prizes and, of course, bragging rights.
The competition itself kicks off Wednesday, March 5, and runs through Tuesday, April 8.
Where: All challenges are designed to be completed within Mecklenburg County and can be tracked online. Participants are encouraged to visit various Charlotte Mecklenburg Library branches and engage with the Library’s online resources.
Who: All book clubs in Mecklenburg County are invited to participate. To join the competition, each book club must have at least two registered members. Registration is free, but participants will need a valid Charlotte Mecklenburg Library card to complete certain challenges.
Why: Book Club Madness aims to promote literacy, foster community engagement, and celebrate the vibrant book club culture within Mecklenburg County. Book clubs that score at least 100 points will be entered into a drawing for a free table for 10 at the annual Verse & Vino event—a prize valued at $2,000.
How: To participate, book clubs should register online. Once registered, members will receive weekly emails from the Library Foundation detailing information about the challenges and how to submit points online.
