Jan. 14. By Dave Yochum. All will soon be right in Cornelius: The $2,500 needed to put Humpty Dumpty back in his rightful spot in front of Cornelius Elementary School has been raised.
Humpty sat atop a brick wall in an open book with the nursery rhyme engraved on the left side and a word search on the right side; that is, until the Humpty portion was stolen a year-and-a-half ago.
But two residents, Stuart Barbee and Chad Hucks, organized a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe, receiving donations of anywhere from $25 to $200 in short order. The Town of Cornelius will recognize them at the Jan. 21 Board of Commissioners meeting, and most likely have a time frame for the replacement.
Greensboro sculptor Eric Isbanioly won the People’s Choice Award for his sculpture back in 2017, when the town organized annual outdoor art competitions in Robbins Park.
Humpty security
Securing the statue is still up in the air. Town officials said they are “keenly aware that a more secure attachment” is necessary.
An awesome act of kindness led by citizens. Listen in for the rest of the story at the Cornelius Town Board meeting on 1/21! The Cornelius Way at its best!!
