Dorothy “Dot” Hart Griffith, of Huntersville, died peacefully February 15 at Levine and Dickson Hospice House. She was born April 14, 1929, to the late Warren C. and Ella Rozzelle Hart.
Proceeded by her beloved husband Melvin “Unk” S. Griffith, sister Mary Hart Caldwell and daughter-in-law Robin Zill.
Dot graduated Long Creek High School and Appalachian State Teacher’s College (Magna Cum Laude). Mrs. Griffith taught sixth and seventh grade in Charlotte Mecklenburg School System (Derita and Huntersville Elementary) for 31 years. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist for 69 years. While there, she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Church Board and Circle Co-Chair. In 1999 she Joined Lake Norman Baptist and was a dedicated member of the Super Senior Sunday School Class.
She is remembered for her cheerful, optimistic outlook and a great love of her Lord Jesus Christ. A life-long learner, she loved to travel and attended many Rhodes Scholars events, was member of several Bridge Clubs, loved nature and being in it, and lived a happy active life.
Survived by her son M. Stewart Griffith, Jr., wife Dana Thompson and son Benjamin C. Griffith, wife Rhonda Burgess Griffith and grandchildren Hart Griffith-Zill, Aubrey Griffith-Zill, Natalie Griffith Abel and husband David and Benjamin Burgess Griffith and wife Natalie; and great-grandchildren, David, Joey, Caroline, Lila, Laura Catherine and Samuel, plus many more special friends and family members who love and will miss her.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Lake Norman Baptist Church at 2 PM Friday, February 19 with Rev. Dr. Bobby Blanton officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM prior. Burial will follow the service at Mimosa Cemetery.
