Merry Christmas from the NCDOT

In this NCDOT map, north is to the right, south is to the left

Dec. 19. By Dave Vieser. Get ready for some temporary road closures starting in the first week of January:

Sections of Hwy. 21/Statesville Road will be temporarily closed at night to accommodate construction crews working on the Catawba/Hwy. 21 Dual Roundabout project. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes if they will be traveling at night in the vicinity of the intersection just east of I-77. Illuminated signs will be utilized to advise motorists about the potential road closures.

Background

NCDOT has been working with the town and nearby neighborhoods and businesses for almost a decade to design intersection improvements which eliminate left turns.

Details

Travelers going west on Catawba Avenue and wanting to head south on US 21 will eventually need to negotiate a new roundabout being built north of Catawba. Travelers going east on Catawba and wanting to head north on Holiday Lane will utilize the roundabout being built south of Catawba to get to Holiday Lane.

  1. I know this comment isn’t regarding the street closures, however how can the NCDOT be so incompetent that they change up the light timing on Sam Furr Road the week before Christmas and make traffic a nightmare. Turn lights for a mall not open yet just having cars sit there for 45 secs. Messed up timing at Northcross etc. It’s a joke. When will leaders of Huntersville & Cornelius get this fixed.
