Dec. 13. Duke Health plans to acquire Lake Norman Regional Medical Center (LNRMC) in Mooresville early next year. It would be Duke’s first expansion out of its current coverage area in the states Triangle region.
Plans to sell LNRMC to Novant fell through earlier this year.
StockTitan reported the value of the transaction at $280 million.
Duke Health signed an asset purchase agreement to acquire the hospital and related businesses from subsidiaries of Community Health Systems.
Quotable
“We recognize the health care landscape is changing,” Craig Albanese, chief executive officer of Duke University Health System (DUHS). “While we continue to expand access to care within the communities we serve, it’s also time to do more and deliver care to more people – in more communities. We want to bring access to all that Duke Health has to offer to the Lake Norman community.”
Details
With a projected closing in the first quarter of 2025, Duke’s acquisition of the 123-bed, acute-care hospital would represent a significant expansion of Duke Health clinical services outside the greater Triangle area.
While still early in the process, both organizations are proceeding with the necessary transition planning activities to ensure that patients have seamless access to their LNRMC providers, clinics and facilities.
LNRMC includes a 123-bed acute-care hospital and offers 24-hour emergency care, labor and delivery services, cardiology, surgical and orthopedic care, and an outpatient imaging center.
Comment to Dr. Khouri, Johana, Matt
Good Morning: I thought you would find this interesting. The LNRMC referred to is only a few miles from my home in Davidson, NC. I doubt the information will have any effect on my acceptance into the Open-Label Extension Study but I consider it great news to know I will have the Duke Health Care System as a “neighbor”.
