Dec. 10. Do you know someone who reaches across racial divides, encourages the exchange of diverse ideas, increases awareness of and respect for different cultures, and encourages and fights for racial equity? Then consider nominating them for the Lenzy R. Wallace Jr. PhD Excellence Award.
One individual and one organization is recognized by Unity in Community North Meck (UiC) for their dedication to racial justice and their endeavors to get into “good trouble,” as the late Rep. John Lewis used to say.
A word from Adrianne Baughns-Wallace: My husband, Dr. Lenzy R. Wallace Jr. was a man of conviction who believed there is good in all of us. His mission in life was to help people grow and be their best selves. Today he would remind us not to be discouraged despite what is happening in the world. He would recognize and encourage people of goodwill, with diverse backgrounds, and religious and political perspectives to continue the hard work of bridging divides. And, finally he would want us to have faith in the future and continue our labor in the service of humanity and a better world. His vision lives on in our hearts.
2023 Winners were: UiC supporter Michelle Goglia/Individual and Ada Jenkins/Organization.
