Dec. 5. A $24 annual increase in the basic facilities charge paid by EnergyUnited residential customers will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2025. This marks the second such increase within the past year, as a $36 annual hike was imposed in June of this year. The increases are applied on a monthly basis, or $2 and $3, respectively.
The basic facilities charge is a fixed monthly fee which allows EnergyUnited to recover costs for necessary grid equipment such as transformers, poles and wires.
Background
Energy United provides electricity to approximately 10,300 customers in Cornelius, who mainly live west of I-77, as well as approximately 17,300 customers in Huntersville and 1,200 in Davidson.
Other customers in Cornelius receive electricity from either Electricities or Duke Power.
Quotable
“We are focused on balancing the cost of power while responding to rising prices needed for the delivery of electricity” said EnergyUnited CEO Thomas Golden. “We wrestle with decisions such as this, but at the end of the day, we are committed to providing reliable power.”
Because EnergyUnited is a not-for-profit utility, it returns excess funds to members in the form of capital credits.
