Nov. 15. Governor-elect Stein has included former NC Sen. Jeff Tarte on his transition team. Tarte, a former mayor of Cornelius and a Republican, will help identify and interview candidates.

His primary focus will involve Information Technology.

Background

The NC Dept. of Information Technology employs about 1,500 people from Secretary of NCDIT to data centers. The collective IT spend across all state agencies and departments is approximately $3 billion annually.

Tarte served three terms each as a North Carolina state senator and as mayor of Cornelius. He was named a top 100 U.S. IT executive by CIO magazine and North Carolina 2018 Public Leader of the Year by the North Carolina Technology Association.

The transition team includes Christie McNeill, a former McKinsey & Co. partner who will lead the team; Seth Dearmin, who has been chief of staff at the Department of Justice since 2017; Malcomb Coley, US Central Private Leader for EY, based in Charlotte; Kristi Jones, who has served as chief of staff for Gov. Roy Cooper; Esther Manheimer, the mayor of Asheville, which was hit hard by Tropical Storm Helene; and Richard Stevens, an attorney with the Smith Anderson law firm in Raleigh and NC Senator from 2003-2012.
