Ukraine — Sleeping Disorder

7 – 8:30 pm | Nov. 14. Join an evening with photographer Ira Lupu to discuss her exhibit in the Wall Building at Davidson College: “Ukraine — Sleeping Disorder.” Lupu will discuss her work produced during summer visits to wartime Ukraine in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Free and open to the public. No tickets required. Visual Arts Center VAC-117 Semans Lecture Hall, Davidson College.

Matilda Jr.: The Musical

See website for performance schedule. Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence and special powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly lovable Miss Honey. Based on Roald Dahl’s book. $20-$30. Cain Center for the Arts, downtown Cornelius.

Eastern Style Barbecue

Saturday, Nov. 16

11th Annual Cornelius Food Truck Invitational

2-8 pm | Nov. 16. The top trucks go head-to-head for boasting rights. Vote for your favorites across a variety of categories. Live music, vendors, kids activities, games, giveaways and more. Cornelius Town Hall.

Lake City Christmas Bazaar

9 am – 2 pm | Nov. 16. 100-plus vendors, food trucks, coffee/donut truck, photo ops, live Christmas tree sales, silent auction with more than 15-plus items and live music. Lake City Church, 311 Bluefield Rd., Mooresville.

Tree Lighting at LangTree Lake Norman

5-9 pm | Nov. 16. Lighting ceremony of 40-foot tree at 7:30 pm. Festivities include visit with Santa, face painting, craft vendors, food and beverage vendors, live DJ and bounce houses. LangTree Lake Norman, 144 Village View Dr., Mooresville 28117.

Davidson College Star Party

4-8:30 pm | Nov. 16. The event will begin with interactive exhibits and games led by the College’s astronomy class in the Blanche Knox Parker Esplanade between the Dana and Watson science buildings from 4-6 pm. The exhibits will be followed by nighttime stargazing on the campus lawn from 6:30-8 pm. Stay for the entire event or spend just a short time exploring the exhibits or taking a tour of the night sky. Experience the Beatles with Beatlesque – A Tribute to the Beatles

Doors 6 pm; show 7 pm | Nov. 16. Beatlesque brings the Fab Four to life, performing classics like “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and hits from the transformative Sgt. Pepper’s era. Beatlesque provides a nostalgic journey through the music that changed pop culture forever. $15. Joe V. Knox Auditorium, Charles Mack Citizen Center, 215 North Main St., Mooresville.

Music of Hope & Celebration

5 pm | Nov. 17. An evening of musical variety as a number of local singers and musicians gather to perform and raise funds for Alzheimer’s Association. Free-will offering. Broad Church, 335 South Broad St., Mooresville 28115.

Concert: Testament of Freedom

3 pm | Nov. 17. As World War II came to an end, composer Randall Thompson honored Thomas Jefferson and his writings by creating a choral work that rallied great national pride at a time of world conflict. Featuring Queens Choral Union, Mitchell Community Chorus, Central Piedmont Community College Chorus,  Palmetto Voices, and Queens Chamber Orchestra. Free.
