Oct. 24. Cornelius Parks and Recreation landed second place statewide in the NCDOT’s Mobi Awards/Small Urban category for the Antiquity Greenway.
Background
The 0.6-mile paved trail with a trailhead near Cornelius Town Hall, was completed in September 2019 and connects neighborhoods, businesses, and schools while enhancing pedestrian and bicycle access. It features the scenic Antiquity covered bridge and an elevated boardwalk, offering views of natural areas that help reduce flooding, improve air and water quality, and preserve wildlife habitats.
Mobis—short for mobility—honor North Carolina municipalities that have completed multimodal transportation projects that spur economic development, improved public health, and enhanced the communities’ quality of life. Multimodal projects connect people to places, provide alternative modes of travel, and make the state more accessible, attractive and competitive.
