Tommy’s Appliance Tips: Advice for microwaves and corn

Microwave ovens have come a long way with performance and, especially, with safety.

Now that summer is here, I love fresh local corn on the cob. My preference is to leave the shuck on the corn, and put the ears in the microwave for 4 minutes per ear.

Be careful when you remove the ears; they are hot. Shuck the ears and taste that good flavor.

When popping popcorn, I like to put a bowl of water for 2 minutes, then add your bag of popcorn. This produces a fluffier kernel.

Cleaning

When it’s time to clean, do not spray cleaner;  use a soapy cloth to clean.

Other tips

When necessary, cover a dish with a paper plate so it does not splatter.

I rarely use plastics to heat/cook with.

Hope this helps.
