July 23. For Cornelius residents who are accustomed to streaming live meetings on the town website, Town Manager Andrew Grant advises using the town’s facebook site instead for the next several weeks.

A storm-related power surge damaged some of the town’s broadcasting equipment.

The broadcasting equipment allows the town to simultaneously stream to both town website and Facebook platforms. Due to the equipment damage, IT staff has to manually start up both platforms when streaming.

That can be problematic, Grant said.

“At our June 15 meeting, for example, we inadvertently did not start up the website streaming until after the meeting had started, while the Facebook stream started from the beginning of the meeting,” he said.

Grant says the town will always upload the entire meeting recording to the website archive so that it can be viewed after the fact.

As to when this issue will be fixed: Soon, Grant said. “The equipment is on our list of IT items to replace.”
