May 9. Cornelius Early Scholars first class of four-year-olds will graduate May 30 with an impressive improvement in Kindergarten Readiness scores. Staffers have focused on math and literacy, in a comprehensive age appropriate curriculum that also incorporates listening, discovery, exploration, play, decision making and problem solving, said Early Scholars Chair David Judge.
The pre-school, which operates out of First Baptist Church in Cornelius will be doubling to four classrooms to serve more than 30 young scholars. That means meeting a new financial goal of $200,000 for year two.
Cornelius Early Scholars is a free, nonprofit 501 (c) (3) scholarship Christian preschool that provides children with the first steps in their early childhood education. Its mission is to ensure every child receives a quality education in a nurturing and safe environment.
Classes resume Sept. 3, the day after Labor Day.
