Jan. 17. Dr. Tony Zeiss portrayed Revolutionary War veteran Thomas Young at the Jan. 9 meeting of the Mary Slocumb Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The program was based on Zeiss’s book, “Backcountry Fury: A Sixteen-Year-Old Patriot in the Revolutionary War.”
The book is based on the memoirs of Thomas Young, who lived and fought in the South Carolina backcountry during the American Revolution. Zeiss portrayed Young from 1830, remembering his 18 months as a young man in the war.
Zeiss is president of Central Piedmont Community College. He has authored 21 books and was named 2005 National CEO of the Year by the Association of Community College Trustees.
The Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.
