With incumbent John Bradford running for Congress, the primary election under way now will determine which NC House District 98 candidates will be on the ballot this November. The district covers virtually all of Cornelius, as well as a portion of Huntersville and Davidson.

“After four terms in the NC House of Representatives I decided it was time to try and fix a broken Washington, D.C.” Bradford said.

Primary Election Day, aka Super Tuesday, is March 5 in North Carolina. Sixteen states and American Samoa will hold primaries or caucuses.

Beth Helfrich and Lisa Jewel are engaged in a lively campaign on the Democratic side. Their campaign signs can be seen throughout Cornelius and District 98. Meanwhile, Huntersville Mayor Melinda Bales is running unopposed on the Republican line.

The winner of the Democratic primary will face Bales.

About the Primary

Early voting continues through 3 pm Saturday March 2 at limited sites, including Cornelius Town Hall.

On March 5, all Mecklenburg County voting places will be open from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm.

In addition to the House 98 race, registered voters can select from a lengthy list of candidates starting with president of the United States and ending with the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners.

Those registered as Democratic or Republican can only vote in their respective primaries. However, registered independent voters can select either the Republican or Democratic ballot, but not both. Voters can obtain a sample ballot and check on voting locations by accessing the county Board of Elections web site: www.mecknc.gov.
