Pioneer Springs open house

Pioneer Springs Community School, a holistic, nature-based public charter school will hold an information session followed by a tour of its historic campus Saturday, Jan. 16 at the Davis House, 9132 Bob Beatty Road in Charlotte, just south of Huntersville.  The event begins at 10 am.

The school is located in the National Register’s Historic Croft District with campus facilities dating to 1890 and the early 1900s.  The historic buildings and natural site offer a unique setting in which the school is redefining the role a school can play in the lives of children, families, and a community.  Now in their second year as a charter school serving grades K-4, in 2016-17 fifth grade will be added to the school and a consecutive grade each year thereafter.  Pioneer Springs has grown into a vibrant community, whose mission of empowering children through the wonder of nature has resonated with area families seeking an educational model aligned with their values.  Located just south of Huntersville in the Historic Croft District of Charlotte, their campus utilizes the beautifully restored historic buildings on their nature-rich campus.

Pioneer Springs is currently holding their annual lottery enrollment period for the 2016-17 school year for grades K-5, which will continue through February 5, 2016. The annual lottery for new admissions will be held on February 26, 2016 at 4:30 pm at Asbury Park Grove, 9300 Bob Beatty Road, Charlotte, NC 28269. To register for the lottery and for more information about the registration process, please visit www.PioneerSprings.org.   In addition, the public is invited to attend an information session to learn more about the school’s philosophy and mission.

At Pioneer Springs, students live their learning, immersed in the most stimulating, organic, and inspiring learning environment there is: the natural world that surrounds us. Being outside engages all of our senses, bringing our whole being into the learning process and allowing learning to take place on many different levels.  Cultivating a meaningful, lifelong connection to nature grounds students, encourages the kind of healthy risk-taking that results in meaningful learning, and allows kids an opportunity to discover that the wide world outside is not a place to be afraid of, but a place of discovery and growth.
