Oct. 2. The Lake Norman Community Health Clinic (LNCHC) is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a gala event honoring the clinic’s founders and raising funds to expand services to local residents who have no health insurance and lack access to affordable health care.

LNCHC served 1,605 residents in Mecklenburg and southern Iredell counties in 2022.

The celebration and fundraiser, presented by Novant Health, will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, from 6-11 p.m. at Sweet Magnolia Estate in Cornelius. Founders

Guests of honor will be Dr. David Cook, who started seeing patients in the back of an area grocery store in 1998, and April Cook, who worked with four local churches to formally launch the clinic in a church basement in 2001.

April Cook served as executive director of the clinic until late 2022 and now serves as CEO of the North Carolina Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NCAFCC), which works with 70 clinics serving the uninsured and underinsured statewide. Dr. Cook continues to serve as LNCHC’s medical director.

With volunteer health care providers and other volunteers, LNCHC provides a wide range of health care services to residents who have no health insurance of any kind and earn less than 250 percent of the federal poverty level.

Proceeds from the event will help fund an expansion of the clinic that will add 1,400 square feet, including a new dental clinic and expanded lab and office space.

The clinic is located at 14230 Hunters Road in Huntersville.
