Birkdale Big Screen

Active Seniors Day – Amazing Maize Maze

10 am – 3pm | Sept. 27. Seniors will have the chance to explore the Amazing Maize Maze and the Rural Retreat Cabin and Davidson Schoolhouse. Bring water, and a lunch. The Amazing Maize Maze is a rain or shine event. Tickets $12; no refunds. Pets are not allowed.  Historic Rural Hill, 4431 Neck Rd., Huntersville.

Davidson College Symphony Orchestra: Dance!

7:30 pm | Sept. 28. The DCSO opens its season with an eclectic mix of dance music including Argentine tango, Mexican jarabe, a deep south cakewalk, Viennese ballroom, and a cosmic dance of Shiva as Nataraja. Composers featured include José Elizondo, Michael-Thomas Foumai, Florence Price and Johann Strauss Jr. Admission is free, but tickets are required. R. Nathaniel DETT: The Ordering of Moses (North Carolina Premiere)

Leonard BERNSTEIN: Chichester Psalms

Doors: 6 pm; show: 7:30 pm | Sept. 28. The Charlotte Master Chorale presents an examination of freedom and oppression across communities featuring Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and the North Carolina premiere of R. Nathaniel Dett’s long-neglected oratorio The Ordering of Moses, which builds on the spiritual “Go Down, Moses” to portray the liberation of the Hebrews from bondage in Egypt. Creative Clay/ Pottery Senior Workshop

Sounds of the Highlands Gala

Tawba Walk

2-8 pm | Sept. 30. Eclectic art crawl through the heart of Cornelius, featuring local vendors, live street performances, shopping, food and more. Downtown Cornelius.

Historic Cornelius Guided Walking Tour

5-6 pm | Sept. 30. Join Cornelius Historic Preservation Committee members for a guided walking tour of historic Cornelius. Along the way you will learn about when and how the town was incorporated, the Gem Yarn Mill, the history of Cornelius Elementary School, and other sites of interest. The starting point for this tour will be the Cornelius Veterans Monument on the east side of Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave.

18th annual Run for Green

Start time 7:45am | Sept. 30. Race includes a 5K, 10k, and half-marathon and boasts a certified course that takes runners through the town of Davidson and along miles of scenic greenways. $70 race fee i. Downtown Davidson.

23rd annual All American Dog show

2-5 pm | Sunday, Oct. 1. Registration is open to pups of all ages. They’ll compete for the titles of Best Dressed, Fluffiest Coat, Spectacular Spots and more. Early registrations $6; day of registration is $10. Register online. This event is free to attend. Robbins Park, West Catawba Avenue.

Dan Jansen Celebrity Classic Charity Concert

8 pm | Oct. 1. Davidson Community Players presents Yankee Tavern

See website for schedule | Through Oct. 8. Just when you thought you’d heard every crazy 9/11 conspiracy theory, a stranger walks into the Yankee Tavern. There, inside the walls of this crumbling New York tavern, a young couple finds themselves caught up in what might be the biggest conspiracy of all. Contains adult themes and language. BBQ pre-orders

Pre-orders for the 84th Annual Mt Zion BBQ is ongoing until Oct.15. BBQ sold by the pound, with sauce included, $12; slaw $5 a pint. Pick-up will be Nov. 4 at the church, 19600 Zion Ave, Cornelius.

Haunted trail

Scarrigan Farms haunted trail, featuring deranged clowns, monsters, classic slashers, zombies and more. The haunted trail costs $20 to $50 per person depending on the date. Reservations are required for the haunted trail and can be made at www.scarriganfarms.com. The trail is not for the faint of heart and all participants must be 12 years old older to enter. Pumpkin picking at Carrigan Farms

Pumpkin picking at Carrigan Farms with tractor-drawn hayrides is the authentic pick-your-own experience and includes picking a pumpkin right off the vine. Advanced reservations are required. The cost for pumpkin picking is $15 per person and includes a pumpkin from the patch. Apple cider donuts and apple cider slushies are available on Saturdays and Sundays and their farm market will have other seasonal pumpkins and gourds available for purchase. The farm and the food truck are both cash only. Carrigan Farms, 1261 Oak Ridge Farm Hwy. (Intersection of 150 & 152),  Mooresville.

The Art of Mechanics

An exhibit by Anna Grant Dean, who was recently a part of the Class of ’23 in ArtPop Street Gallery. Dean’s work demonstrates the creative process as well as the understanding of engineering. Her ability to install large scale sculpture demonstrates how creative the mind can be. Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Friday, 10 am – 4 pm. Cain Center for the Arts, Catawba Avenue, Cornelius.

Mud at the Mill

9 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday; 9 a m – noon Saturday. The gallery show showcases functional, sculptural, and experimental work that utilizes clay as the primary material. A celebration of a variety of use and techniques. Cornelius Arts Center, 19725 Oak St, Cornelius.
