June 2. Cornelius resident Tommy Walker had more than 50 years experience in appliance repair and operated Tommy’s Appliance Service until retiring a few years ago. Tommy will offer the community his advice for various appliances monthly.
Ranges and ovens still cook our meals, but cooking habits should change as the appliances are controlled differently.
Regular burners can use any type of pot or pan but glass tops work better with extra bottoms attached to them.
Copper, aluminum and cast iron don’t work as well.
As far as the ovens go, dark colored pans work better as well.
Now self-cleaning has really changed since they have temperature safety thermostats, so don’t start a clean cycle from a cold oven.
Clean it after you have cooked in it and reduce the clean time to one and a half hour. Set a timer and simply hit cancel on eh oven and wait for it to cool down before opening door.
