Roosevelt Wilson Park in Davidson to get renovations sooner than expected.

April 17.  Gov. Roy Cooper announced the North Carolina Park Authority has awarded $9.6 million in park accessibility grants through the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund.

The Town of Davidson was  awarded a $171, 313 park accessibility grant for renovations to Roosevelt Wilson Park.

Huntersville received $212,000 for Abernathy Park.

Iredell County was awarded $500,000 for Jennings Park inclusion play.

In all, $9.6 million in park accessibility grants went to 21 projects across the state. The 2021 state budget included $10 million for the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund to provide matching grants to local governments for parks facilities for children and veterans living with disabilities. The awards were granted during a March 3 meeting of the authority.

In Davidson, the grant was awarded for renovations at Roosevelt Wilson Park and will include replacing the playground equipment and surfacing, replacing the picnic shelter, and adding adaptable fitness stations. All the renovations will follow American for Disabilities Act guidelines making this park accessible for all.

“Receiving this grant …  will expedite much needed renovations to our park, not to mention make it more accessible and enjoyable for everyone” said Leslie Willis, Davidson Parks & Recreation Director. “Roosevelt Wilson Park has been in need of some renovations, and this grant will make it possible for us to make the renovations sooner than expected.”
