9:30 am – noon. | March 5. The Jewish Council of Lake Norman and Temple Kol Tikvah’s youth group host the annual Purim Carnival. The theme is Harry Potter. All are welcome to celebrate Purim. Come dressed in costume and have fun making crafts, playing games like Quidditch Relay Race, Potion Making, Bounce House and more. $8 per child. Purim is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman, who was planning to have all of Persia’s Jewish subjects killed, as recounted in the Book of Esther. Jacolby Satterwhite’s Finding Home Again exhibit focuses on his digital animated series, Birds in Paradise, which features a mythological, queer universe inspired by pop culture, African folklore, ritual, video games and personal narratives. For the American artist, liberation, rebirth, and healing of the black, queer body is achieved through movement and sound. The 3.5 acre open space is conducive to many local and migratory songbirds. The walk is slow paced with opportunities to rest on benches and be still for the birds.
