A note of thanks from Unity in Community

Feb. 6. [Letter to the editor] It is hard to overstate the gratitude felt by the board and supporters of Unity in Community for the support that we received from local businesses, churches, and civic leaders as we celebrated our fifth anniversary on January 28. We have spent the past five years challenging systemic racism through education and direct action, bringing people of different races together, and opposing the Confederate monument standing in Cornelius.

To help us celebrate, Davidson College Presbyterian Church provided us space at its Congregation House. Big thanks to Y’Tia, Rhonda and Peter.

We got a huge boost from Wilson Realty in Davidson. Our thanks to Terry Wilson. Food, gifts, and services came from Table and Board. Thank you Julie and MaryLou. Thanks to The Fresh Market, especially Angel and Kecia. Sherri from Food Lion came through like gangbusters, as did Christian and Stephanie at Chick-fil-A. And we’re grateful to Tylesha,

Dave, and the rest of the folks at Dunkin’ Donuts, Antiquity.

Door prizes came from Donna and Cindy at C&D Innovations, Misty at the Davidson Soda Shop, Fresh Chef, Harris-Teeter, Publix and Annsley and Jabez at Whit’s Frozen Custard. We’re also very grateful to Cornelius Today for publicizing this event and other UiC efforts to advance racial equity in North Mecklenburg. On behalf of the UiC board, thank you all very much!
